"God, bless our city." We've all prayed it. And God hears it. But most of us sense there's something deeper available — prayer that's specific, sustained, and shared.
Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.
Jeremiah 29:7
Pray in circles, from the inside out
- Your home — that Christ would be honoured under your own roof first.
- Your street — the actual names and doors you pass every day.
- Your church — unity, purity, boldness, and love that outsiders can feel.
- Your city's leaders — wisdom, integrity, and protection for those who carry authority.
- The forgotten — the addicted, the unhoused, the lonely, the trafficked, the grieving.
Pray with your eyes open
Some of the best prayer happens on a walk. Notice the boarded-up storefront. The school. The hospital. The bar. Let what you see shape what you say. Specific sight produces specific prayer.
Don't pray alone forever
Jesus taught us to pray "our Father" — plural. Personal prayer is essential, but there is a particular authority in believers agreeing together across churches, denominations, and neighbourhoods.
Ways to pray with others
If you want to join believers who are actively praying for their city and their world:
- Jesus Festival App (JesusFestival.app): The companion app — prayer wall, city missions, and a whole community reviving their city together.
- Love on Hamilton (LoveonHamilton.com): Loving one city well — practical, local outreach that puts the Gospel on the ground in Hamilton.
- Love on Mission (LoveonMission.world): A living map of the Great Commission — seeing where the Gospel is going and where workers are still needed.
The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
